Ex- Federal Bureau of Investigation director James the ex-FBI chief has denied the charges to making false statements to congressional representatives and hindering a congressional proceeding.

Mr Comey's lawyer filed the response representing him in a federal court in Alexandria, Virginia on Wednesday.

Patrick Fitzgerald announced he would attempt to have the legal matter terminated for various factors including that his defendant, a critic of Donald Trump, was being singled out.

Mr Comey was indicted just days after the former president urged his top legal official to take action against him.

Court Developments

During the hearing on mid-week, Comey's lawyer the legal representative informed the court they planned to present multiple petitions to dismiss the legal matter before a legal hearing, arguing the government's case was retaliatory and that a US attorney was improperly designated to assume control of the proceedings.

James Comey's legal matter was initially managed by Erik Siebert, who left his position under influence from Trump after his examination into an additional opponent - NY AG Letitia James - failed to initiate prosecution.

Judicial Environment

Mr Comey appeared in positive mood as he entered the courtroom on mid-week, chatting with his lawyers and being lighthearted. He was accompanied by his partner, Patrice Failor and daughter Maureen Comey, a US lawyer who the former government terminated.

Following the reading to the judge state his rights and the two counts against him in the courtroom on Wednesday, Mr Comey was inquired if he understood the allegations.

"Yes your honour. Thank you very much," he informed the judge.

Historical Information

The former director was the chief of the Federal Bureau of Investigation from 2013 to 2017 and was terminated about four months into Trump's first administration as president. At the moment, he was directing an probe into foreign election meddling and whether there were any relationships between Russia and the election effort.

During his tenure, the director triggered a counter-response from Democrats when he stated just shortly prior to the national vote that he was investigating political contender Hillary Clinton's use of a personal email system. Indictments against the candidate were not filed, leading to disapproval from the Republican party as well.

Current Allegations

Prosecutors assert the former director gave untrue statements to US lawmakers during a congressional hearing in September 2020 when he was being questioned about both the email probe as well as the foreign influence inquiry. They allege he misled the Senate by claiming he had not approved a person at the agency to release to media organizations data about the agency probes.

Legal representatives also charge James Comey of "wrongfully trying to sway, block and impede" the panel by giving misleading testimony to it.

Public Statements

Via social media James Comey shared to his social media after he was accused, he declared he was not guilty and accused Donald Trump of acting like a "dictator".

"My family and I have been aware for a long time that there are costs to challenging Mr Trump," he said. "We will not live on our kneeling."
"I have done nothing wrong," he stated further. "Therefore proceed with a court case."

The charges against the former director surfaced after Trump published on social media insisting on his chief prosecutor, Pam Bondi, prosecute Mr Comey and others.
