New England Equal Best Victory Run From Tom Brady Era with Win Over Jets
First-year player Henderson has recorded five touchdowns in the present year
New England equaled their best victory streak since the Tom Brady era as they beat AFC East rivals the Jets 27-14 in professional football
First-year standout Henderson led the way with three touchdowns as the New England squad secured an eight-game winning streak for the first time since legendary quarterback Tom Brady's last year with the team in the 2019 season
Quarterback Maye threw for 281 yards and a TD, completing 25 of 34 passes
Victory extends the New England's lead at the top of the AFC East as they advanced to nine wins and two defeats, with the New York bottom after slipping to a 2-8 mark
The visitors had taken the lead at Gillette Stadium with QB Justin Fields running in a five-yard TD to cap the Jets' initial series
But the home team answered in the second period as Henderson scored two short rushing scores before the ball carrier grabbed a reception from Maye at the rear of the endzone midway through the third period to extend the lead to 21-7
"That was a crucial moment for him stepping up, and it's been excellent for him to keep earning playing time," Maye commented on Henderson. "He aims to be great."
Fields found Metchie toward the end of the third quarter to narrow the deficit for the visitors but Andy Borregales converted a two kicks in the final period as the home side wrapped up the triumph
